Choral Arts Society Chamber Ensemble:
The art of the italian madrigal

Saturday, October 15 at 4:00 pm & 8:00 pm

Our opening concert takes you to 16th and 17th century Italy for an evening of vocal gems by the undisputed masters of the Italian madrigal - Monteverdi and Palestrina. These artful songs of love and wit are sung by Washington’s undisputed vocal masters, the elegant Choral Arts Society Chamber Ensemble. Music Director Scott Tucker traces the evolution of the madrigal form as it crosses Europe including early settings and two 20th-century arrangements—by Morten Lauridsen and Jacob Druckman—of old madrigal texts.

Maria Lambros, viola

Body’s enthralling Three Transcriptions was inspired by his own field recordings—of a Chinese jaw harp; a Madagascan zither tune and music of a Bulgarian village band!
