Written near the end of his life, the epic C Sharp Minor quartet was Beethoven’s favorite, and to this day many musicians and music lovers consider it the greatest string quartet ever written. Tonight the brilliant, boundary-defying Brooklyn Rider will play this masterpiece, Philip Glass’s Suite for String Quartet from “Bent,” a Romanian gypsy music inspired piece by composer-violist Ljova and Seven Steps, an original work by Brooklyn Rider. “Forgive the hyperbole,” wrote Strings magazine, “but I've seen the future of chamber music and it is Brooklyn Rider.”

Formed by New York Philharmonic Concertmaster Glenn Dicterow with cellist Inbal Segev and violist Karen Dreyfus, this dazzling new trio performs two of the best-loved pieces written for string trio - the Beethoven and Dohnanyi Serenades. |
