Vida Guitar Quartet
El Amor Brujo
To celebrate our 35th season we’re kicking things off with an Andalusia-spiced program of Bizet’s Carmen Suite, Turina’s Prayer of the Bullfighter and de Falla’s remarkably beautiful and fiery El amor brujo - Love, the Magician. Savor the sounds of the Vida Guitar Quartet, comprised of four of England’s finest guitarists. As Gramophone says, “There’s only one word for it: magic.”

PostClassical Ensemble
Interpreting Shostakovich
Featuring Dmitri Berlinsky, violin; Natalia Khoma, cello; and George Vatchnadze, piano
Tonight we celebrate the music of Shostakovich as part of a three-week DC-area Shostakovich Festival offering the fullest retrospective of the composer ever mounted in the US. In collaboration with the PostClassical Ensemble, Dumbarton Concerts hosts world-renowned Russian artists and members of the PostClassical Ensemble performing the Piano Trio No. 2, the Sonata for Cello and Piano, and the Largo from the Chamber Symphony for Strings, Op. 110a. Eminent Shostakovich scholars – including Solomon Volkov and British film-maker Tony Palmer – and the artists will offer their unique insights into the man and the composer who was a singular phenomenon in the world of classical music.
